Nostalgia
'Nostalgia' considers the romanticism of our memories. Invariably the only tangible evidence are photographs of our lives. Unfortunately these images present only a freeze-frame view. The truth is, any number of family's photographs could be interposed. All show happy events. This rose-coloured evidence brings into question the truth of our memories and realities. These images create a superficial, one-dimensional view of history which ignores the complexities of people's lives, their ever changing circumstances, and, particularly, the hardships endured by all. The identical rolls of film, the roses, the purity of a bright white background against which people's lives are framed, all are brought together to deliver this sharp, and often uncomfortable view of life.
