Parallel lives
In considering the basis for people's lives, whether those of a thousand years ago, or the present day, the same emotional cycle of lives appears to be endlessly repeated.
Parallel Lives is a sharp observation of our lives and our fear of death. A cycle in which, that which is distant appears attractive and welcoming, yet, upon close scrutiny, becomes repulsive. The work represents the search of the individual for that which appeals to their own social context, much the same as for those of generations gone by.
This work, sited in a walk-in safe, created an atmosphere reminiscent of catacombs, with the hundreds of golden pairs of teeth carefully stacked as each generation stacks upon another. Viewed from a distance the viewer is invited by curiosity, yet, upon approach, the grizzly detail becomes evident, which in turn creates another morbid fascination.
